This Star Studded First Look At Denis Villeneuve Latest Reboot Is Jaw-dropping

Academy award nominated French Canadian director Denis Villeneuve is bringing Dune back to life, which was a best selling novel created by the late American science-fiction author Frank Hebert. This movie will be part of a two part adaptation which will cover roughly the first half of the 1965 novel.

Empire magazine has revealed the first looks of the movie as part of their 2-part cover edition which will hit news-stands on Thursday, September 3rd. The first cover shows the House of Astreides with portagonist Paul Astreides portayed by Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac as his father Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson as his mother, the Bene Gesserit Witch Lady Jessica and Josh Brolin as the master-at-arms Gurney Halleck.

The second cover shows the indigenous Fremen people of the planet Arakis. They include Javier Bardem’s Stilgar, a leader of the Fremen tribe and Zendaya portraying a tribe member Chani. Liet-Kynes, who is a male character in the book, has been gender-swapped with a female actor Sharon Duncan-Brewstar. Jason Momoa‘s Duncan Idaho rounds off the group in the poster. A third terrifying poster, depicting the colossal sandworm, which is native to the planet, has been revealed as well.

Set millennia into the future, where humans have discovered beyond-light speed travel and have colonized different planets, the story takes place in the desert planet of Arakis (also known as ‘Dune’). This planet is the only source for the most valuable substance in the universe – ‘the spice’, a drug which extends life, increases human thought and makes foldspace travel possible. We follow Paul Atriedes as he and his family move to Dune from their home planet Caladan. Once there, he finds himself in the middle of the political struggle around the galaxy’s most important resource, the aforementioned ‘the spice’.

Denis Villeneuve has assembled a star studded cast for the two part movie and it hasn’t ended with just stars revealed in the posters. With prominent stars Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgaard, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, David Dastmalchian, Charlotte Rampling and Chang Chen depicting important characters in the movie, we are expecting George Lucas’ Star Wars level of an epic.

The trailer for the movie is set to come out first attached to prints of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ and will be available to the public on Wednesday, 9th September at 9:30 pm. The movie is expected to release in theaters on December 18th.
