Tovino Thomas blew our minds with ‘Ajayante Randam Moshanam’ aka ARM last year but did you know which was his highest grossing film before that? It was the 2022 action comedy drama ‘Thallumaala’ directed by Khalid Rahman (‘Alappuzha Gymkhana’).
‘Thallumaala’ is a film that was meant to be seen on the big screen, but if you did not get the chance to do so you should definitely not miss it now specially if you love action movies.
‘Thallumaala’ follows Waseem, a young, carefree, ill-tempered young man, who constantly finds himself involved in fights. The tables however turn when his adversaries set out to seek revenge on his wedding day.
Well the storyline might look simple but it ain’t. The non-linear storyline follows 9 chapters which happen in different timelines and begins to shift from one chapter to another finally moving towards the last chapter for the conclusion.
In essence, ‘Thallumaala’ might look like a ballad of brawls quite literally. But what’s most impressive and makes it an amazing action flick is the exceptional action sequences coupled with a wacky humorous undertone. The visual style, technical aspects and direction are just brilliant.
Although, it cannot be denied that ‘Thallumaala’ is an experimental film that has its flaws like pacing and music and while some might enjoy it thoroughly it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Nonetheless, ‘Thallumaala’ is a must watch for its stylish and jaw-dropping action, if not for anything else. It is currently streaming on Netflix, do give it a try this weekend.
