We have seen our old masters make huge comebacks with blockbuster hits over the last few years and we as audiences are overjoyed to live at a time when the lost glory of theatrical cinema is being revived and celebrated by all. Rajinikanth made a huge comeback with ‘Jailer’, and now he is coming with more movies like ‘Coolie’ and ‘Vettaiyan’. Kamal Hassan went on to have one of the year’s biggest successes with ‘Vikram’ and he will continue with his streak in LCU.
But Mithun Chakroborty, who had been one of the biggest superstars of his time, is caught up with average films all these years and had nothing extraordinary for him to have a notable second innings. His movies are obviously doing well in the Bengali film industry but that is not all we can expect. Mithun is a personality who was famous not only in India but abroad as well, and when all his peers are having big pan-india blockbusters he has to keep doing mediocre stuff when people do actually love him still.
Amitabh Bachchan has phenomenally owned the whole plot of ‘Kalki 2898 Ad’ and it shows the energy he has. Mithun Chakroborty, if given a proper chance by good directors can do something similar too. But he seems to be outcast by mainstream filmmakers and is having no good story for his legacy to continue.
