December is here and the upcoming cold holiday weather needs some warm love. Top it with the some heartfelt comedy and it makes for a perfect binge watch. And that’s why Judd Apatow’s ‘Love’ on Netflix, though a little underrated, is worth a try.
‘Love’ offers an honest take on modern romantic relationships. It follows rebellious Mickey (Gillian Jacobs, ‘Community’) and good-natured Gus (Paul Rust, ‘I Love You Beth Cooper’, ‘Inglorious Basterds’) as they navigate the thrills, agonies and complexities of modern love. It’s about how they face the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment, and other things they were hoping to avoid.
Talking about the lead characters of ‘Love’ Mickey and Gus, they are wildly different yet get attracted towards each other. Wild child Mickey is an alcoholic, dramatic person with an addiction for sex who hates her job in radio. On the other hand is a so called “nice guy” Gus who is a people pleaser but in reality keeps tab of all the good he does for others.
They have both recently got out of relationships and are now single. A chance encounter leads to their introduction with each other and though wildly different, the two are drawn to each other.
‘Love’ is quite different from the usual romance dramas that centre around the ‘will they won’t they’ theme. It isn’t about finding that right person either that will make one’s problems disappear magically. In fact the series is about how in real life love is often imperfect and more than a feeling it’s a process that requires to be worked upon.
