This Week’s Top Foreign OTT Releases: Resident Evil, Alba & More

Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting foreign OTT titles including several films and web series such as ‘Control Z S3’, ‘King of Stonks’, ‘Girl in the Picture’, ‘Boo, Bitch’, ‘Incantation’, and ‘The Sea Beast’, to name a few.

Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up for release. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top foreign titles streaming on Indian OTT platforms from this week.

Mothering Sunday (Streaming on Zee5 from 12th July)

Helmed by French filmmaker Eva Husson, the romantic drama movie is set against the backdrop of post-World War 1. The film’s story follows an orphaned maid named Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young), who gets the chance to spend some time with her affluent lover owing to her employers’ absence. But the man is already engaged with another woman.

Better Call Saul S6 Part-2 (Streaming on Netflix from 12th July)

Set in the same universe as the cult crime show ‘Breaking Bad’, its critically acclaimed successor ‘Better Call Saul’ narrates the backstory of the titular protagonist Saul Goodman. The plot revolves around an ex-conman Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and how he transforms into a morally corrupt criminal defence attorney.

How to Change Your Mind (Streaming on Netflix from 12th July)

Based on Michael Pollan’s 2018 book, the four-part docuseries revolves around the history, uses, and effects of mind-altering psychedelics such as LSD, psilocybin, MDMA, and mescaline on the body and mind.

D.B. Cooper: Where Are You?! (Streaming on Netflix from 13th July)

The four-part true crime documentary series sheds some light on the titular skyjacker who hijacked an airline jet in the year 1971 and thereafter escaped with a whopping amount of $200,000 in a briefcase. Until now, his identity and whereabouts are still a mystery for the authorities.

What We Do in the Shadows S4 (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 13th July)

Based on the 2014 movie of the same name, the comedy horror series follows a group of vampires living in the present-day world as roommates in Staten Island, New York.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight (Streaming on Netflix from 14th July)

The animated comedy series follows the globetrotting adventures of the reputed warrior Po (voiced by Jack Black), who joins hands with an English knight Wandering Blade in order to acquire four magical weapons. The mismatched duo must set aside their differences to stop a pair of infamous weasels and save the world from destruction.

Resident Evil (Streaming on Netflix from 14th July)

The live-action series is based on Capcom’s globally popular and landmark survival horror video game series ‘Resident Evil’. Set around three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, the eight-episode show features Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, a character from the original game. The story focuses on a deadly outbreak which brings to light Umbrella Corp’s dark secrets.

Backstreet Rookie (Streaming on Netflix from 15th July)

Based on the webtoon ‘Convenience Store Saet-byul’, the Korean romantic drama follows the story of a girl named Jung Saet-Byul (Kim You-Jung), who gets attracted to Choi Dae-Hyun (Ji Chang-Wook) after their chance encounter. Years later, the same girl applies for a part-time job at a convenience store managed by the same man.

Alba (Streaming on Netflix from 15th July)

The Spanish drama follows the story of the titular protagonist Alba (Elena Rivera), who wakes up on a beach with a shocking revelation that she was gang raped by four boys, but she does not remember the incident. Later, she finds out that the rapists are her boyfriend Bruno’s close friends.

Persuasion (Streaming on Netflix from 15th July)

Based on Jane Austin’s novel, the Netflix film follows a modern woman Anne Elliot (played by Dakota Johnson), who was once convinced to break her engagement with the attractive but socially inferior naval officer Frederick Wentworth, which had broken his heart. Around eight years later Anne meets Frederick again but this time, tables have turned as Frederick is now an affluent war hero and still a highly eligible bachelor. Will Anne get a second chance?

The Ambush (Streaming on Lionsgate Play from 15th July)

Helmed by Pierre Morel, the Arabic action war film follows the true story of Emirati soldiers who get trapped in a valley and how a rescue squad is sent on a dangerous mission to retrieve the trapped soldiers from the hostile territory.
