This Week’s Top Foreign OTT Releases: The Sandman, Carter & More

Last week was marked with the arrival of some exciting foreign OTT titles including several films and web series such as ‘Licorice Pizza’, ‘Cyrano’, ‘Adamas’ ‘The Most Hated Man on the Internet’, ‘Keep Breathing’, ‘Purple Hearts’, and ‘Paper Girls’, to name a few.

Likewise, the current week too has some eagerly anticipated OTT films and web series coming up for release. For this article, we have compiled a list of the top foreign titles streaming on Indian OTT platforms from this week.

Lightyear (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 3rd August)

The sci-fi action animated movie is a ‘Toy Story’ spin-off which features Chris Evans in the lead role of Buzz Lightyear, a legendary Space Ranger. The film follows the daredevil intergalactic space adventures of Lightyear, who teams up with aspiring Space Rangers to return home while fighting the evil antagonist Zurg and his formidable robot army amidst the backdrop of a hostile planet.

Don’t Blame Karma (Streaming on Netflix from 3rd August)

Helmed by Palme d’Or winning filmmaker Elisa Miller, the feel-good Spanish rom-com revolves around a fashion designer Sara, who finds out that her former crush is getting married to her younger sister Lucy. Sara thinks that her bad fate is because of her karma. Can Sara finally overcome this belief, and will her life finally take a positive turn?

Wedding Season (Streaming on Netflix from 4th August)

Helmed by Tom Dey, the romantic comedy movie follows the story of Ravi (played by Suraj Sharma of ‘Life of Pi’ fame) and Asha (Pallavi Sharda), who pretend to date each other because of pressure from their parents to find their love partners. But the story takes an interesting turn when the feeling begins to turn real for them.

All or Nothing: Arsenal (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 4th August)

Narrated by Daniel Kaluuya, the sports docuseries will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the immensely popular football club Arsenal’s and team manager Mikel Arteta’s endeavours to perform well in the Premier League and to qualify for the coveted European competition.

The Sandman (Streaming on Netflix from 5th August)

Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book of the same name, the fantasy drama series follows the story of the king of Dreams – Dream / Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), who escapes from his more than 100 years of captivity and makes it his mission to reclaim what was lost to him and to regain his power.

Thirteen Lives (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video from 5th August)

The survival drama movie is based on the real-life Tham Luang cave rescue incident that happened in Thailand in 2018 when a junior football team comprising twelve boys along with their assistant coach were trapped in a cave for eighteen days. Later, two British divers John Volanthen and Richard Stanton found the group alive a few kilometres away from the cave mouth. Helmed by Ron Howard, the film features Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton in the roles of the two British divers and anaesthetist Richard Harris, respectively.

Carter (Streaming on Netflix from 5th August)

The South Korean action thriller movie follows the titular protagonist Agent Carter (Joo Won), who wakes up without any memory of his past. Now, Carter must rely on the mysterious voice from a device planted inside his ear and race against time to pursue a dangerous hostage rescue mission while trying to remember his own identity.

Vendetta (Streaming on Lionsgate Play from 5th August)

The action thriller flick follows a former Marine William Duncan (Clive Standen), whose daughter gets brutally murdered by two gangsters. He avenges his daughter’s death by going after those responsible but that sets off an ugly circle of bloody revenge between William and the crime boss Donnie (Bruce Willis).
