The Bangladeshi film industry is quite ignored among the many film industries kf the subcontinent. But there is no doubt that it produces some wonderful movies every year. With films like Hawa or Moshari, Bangladeshi films are now getting international acclaim. Here is a short list of movies that you will love if you do not have any exposure to the movies of Bangladesh.
Directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, ‘Television’ has gained a position of a cult classic. It tells the story of Chairman Amin who does not like the idea of imagination as he thinks imagination gives anybody the power of infiltrating and intruding into any prohibited territory. Amin hates the television but in the end the television solves a major problem for him. The film stars legends of acting like Kazi Shahir Huda Rumi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Mosharraf Karim and Tisha. The movie can be watched for the performances only.

Directed by Sheikh Niamat Ali and Masihuddin Shaker, ‘Surja Dighal Bari’ is a film that exhibits the effects of World War 2 in Bangladesh in grave detail. It tells the story of a poor family that comes back to their village after the huge Bengal famine in 1943. The film stars actors like Dolly Anwar, ATM Shamsuzzaman, Rawshan Jamil and Sitara Begum in leading roles. The film went on to win five international awards. So you must not miss it at any cost.
Bhuban Majhi (2017) – MX Player:
Directed by filmmaker Fakhrul Arefeen Khan, ‘Bhuban Majhi’ tells the story of the Bangladeshi war of independence. It is a wartime romance that spans about four decades. Bhuban Majhi stars Indian actor Parambrata Chatterjee and others like Aparna Ghosh, Majnun Mijan, Martin Siddiqui, Sushama Sarker. It is a heart-wrenching romance that you should not miss. Nahir, the protagonist, wants to take part in the war of independence but the artist inside him wants independence in a more peaceful way.
