Three American Shows to Watch out for on Hotstar This March

In the war of the streamers, Hotstar is the clear winner in India. With 300 million active monthly users, Hotstar leads Netflix and Amazon Prime Video by an astounding margin. Netflix has a meagre 11 million subscribers in India, while Amazon Prime Video has a paltry 13 million — peanuts compared to Hotstar‘s incredible numbers.

To further compound things, Hotstar has upped the ante by tying up with premiere content companies, HBO, FX and Hulu, thereby bringing their high quality shows to Indian audiences at the same time as their American premieres. Add to that, the impending launch of its parent company’s Disney+ in India at the end of this month, and things couldn’t be rosier for Hotstar.

Binged.com brings you three American shows streaming on Hotstar this March that are a must-watch. Read on to find out
–

Devs – This eight-episode science fiction thriller centers on a computer engineer Lily Chan (Sonoya Mizuno), who works at Amaya, a quantum computing company run by Forest (Nick Offerman). Her boyfriend (Karl Glusman) commits suicide shortly after joining ‘Devs’, the research and development division of Amaya.

Lily suspects that Forest and Devs are the reason behind her boyfriend’s disappearance. Upon further investigation, Lily discovers sinister happenings at Devs, along with a monumental technological conspiracy that has the potential to destroy the world. Devs premieres on Hotstar on 6th March.

Westworld Season 3-Hotstar brings Season 3 of the highly appreciated sci-fi show, Westworld, to Indian audiences. The show revolves around a futuristic west-themed amusement park that is populated by ‘hosts’ – humanlike android beings without sentience. The hosts are programmed to fulfill the guests’ every desire.

The park allows its rich, high-powered clientele to realise their wildest fantasies with the help of the hosts — even rape and torture — when they stay at the park, without fear of retaliation from the hosts, who are prevented by their programming from harming humans.

The end of Season 1 and Season 2 saw the android hosts develop sentient power and rebel against their human handlers. The upcoming Season 3 has the protagonist Dolores escape the confines of the park and get out into the real world, continuing the rebellion from neo-Los Angeles.Westworld Season 3 premieres on Hotstar on 16th March

Little Fires Everywhere – Reese Witherspoon’s pet project, Little Fires Everywhere tells the viewer that what appears on the surface is often deceptive. Reese plays Elena Richardson, happy wife and contented mother, until the entry into her home of the enigmatic Mia Warren, played by Kerry Washington, as housekeeper.

Elena realizes that there’s more to Mia than meets the eye, but before she can do anything about it, her house is burnt down – deliberate or accidental – no one knows. A compelling, psychological thriller. Little Fires Everywhere streams on Hotstar on 19th March.

Rashmi Paharia: Part-time daydreamer, full-time writer, eternal optimist, Rashmi loves reading, writing and nitpicking what she writes. Rashmi spends her free time searching for the magnificent in the mediocre, the memorable in the mundane.
