The highly anticipated Malayalam flick, ‘Minnal Murali‘, was finally released directly for streaming on Netflix… And it has been received well by critics and OTT subscribers alike. While the first Malayalam superhero film has shown a few blatant cliches onscreen, many have already started calling this film, the best superhero film made in India. While that may be a stretch, there are only a few Indian superhero films, to begin with – so the competition for the number one spot is comparatively smaller. Still, even though many loved this film, film lovers missed out on a few references and callbacks in the film – so here are three things that you missed while watching ‘Minnal Murali’:
The First Connection Between Jaison & Shibu
Jason & Shibu became marked by fate when they both got struck got by (essentially the same) lightning at the same time. However, did you know that both characters are also connected in another way? Shibu’s adoptive father, the firecracker creator was responsible for Jaison’s biological father’s inadvertent death. The pyrotechnician had carelessly tossed away a still-lit beedi, which went on to burst a lot of fireworks around the stage, where a play was still ongoing.
Jaison’s Telekinetic Problem
Many will have wondered by now, why does Jaison get his telekinetic powers so late? While it might look like a plothole at first, it actually isn’t. After Jaison was struck by lightning, he is hooked onto a machine that will show his vitals. However, the machine immediately short circuits after it is turned on – which means that Jaison lost a bit of the power which caused his telekinesis powers to be dormant for a while. As you can see in Shibu’s case, it was the first power he learnt to control.
A Possible Multiverse Crossover?!
Apparently, Batman, Superman and Spider-Man exists and are currently plying their trade in America, according to Jaison’s young nephew. While the young boy has likely not understood that superheroes are not real, this statement actually opens up the opportunity to introduce this small-time village superhero into both the MCU and the DC universe. It is likely an impossibility, but let’s see – filmmakers and producers have surprised us before.
