According to several reports, including Scream Horror Magazine, the final entry in Ti West’s X trilogy, MaXXXine, will be a good old whodunit slasher.
We were not sure about MaXXXine’s genre upon its announcement after the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Its production was completed in May this year and makers celebrated the shoot’s wrap by dropping a first-look image featuring Mia Goth and Halsey. It seems like the upcoming Ti West directional will lean more toward the hard-hitting slasher genre.
Previous entries, X and Pearl, treasured some gory moments but they did not belong to the slasher genre in the truest sense. Instead, they served as character studies.
MaXXXine will revolve around Mia Goth’s Maxine who moves to Los Angeles after surviving the massacre that occurred in X (2022). The film will reportedly explore the perilous universe of underground X filmmaking.
Elizabeth Debicki will portray the character of a film director, while Giancarlo Esposito will play an agent for the adult film industry. Kevin Bacon will be a private investigator and the duo of Michelle Monaghan and Bobby Cannavale will be seen as LAPD detectives.
Produced by Mad Solar and Little Lamb, MaXXXine will be distributed by A24. We do not have a release date yet. Stay tuned for more updates.
