The wait for diehard Salman Khan fans was finally over when his latest film ‘Tiger 3’ was released in theatres on Sunday. It is the third instalment of YRF’s Tiger film series with Salman Khan reprising the titular role as the daredevil spy. Barring mixed feedback from some quarters of film enthusiasts, the action movie has received decent reviews from multiple critics.
On the box office front, ‘Tiger 3’ has performed quite well during the first three days of its theatrical release. As per a reputed trade expert and film critic, ‘Tiger 3’ collected around Rs.43 crores on its opening day followed by Rs.58 crores on Monday (domestic box office). Tuesday witnessed a significant drop as the film collected Rs.43.5 crores at the box office. Globally, ‘Tiger 3’ has surpassed Rs. 183 crores at the box office.
And in doing that, the Salman Khan starrer’s three-day performance (Hindi) is now just behind ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ for films released this year. Despite the recent drop in collections, ‘Tiger 3’ has already broken several records and is on its way to crossing the 150-crore benchmark today itself. Moreover, it’s the 17th Salman Khan movie to enter the 100-crore (Hindi net) club.
Having said that, it would be interesting to see how ‘Tiger 3’ performs at the box office hereafter, that is, from today onwards. Because today is the big semi-final ODI World Cup cricket match between India and New Zealand. The knock-out match will certainly attract many eyeballs and that might affect the box-office performance of ‘Tiger 3’.
And if India wins the World Cup match today, then we’ll play the finals this Sunday. So, if that happens, then that day would once again not be very good for ‘Tiger 3’ because the common set of cricket and film loving target audience is expected to be significant. Let’s see how close can ‘Tiger 3’ get with Salman Khan’s highest grossing movie ever – ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, which made more than a whopping 900 crores globally!
