One of the co-creators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kevin Eastman, hopes to see more fan-favourite characters in the Mutant Mayhem sequel. He laid the foundation of the TMNT franchise with Peter Laird back in 1984.
Eastman spoke in great length about the characters he wanted to see in the next TMNT entry in a recent interview with ComicBook. “Through the experience of the Nickelodeon animated series, which just wonderfully brought in some original concepts from the original cartoon series to all the elements, the Tricetons had such a big role in there. So we’ve been lucky enough to experience this in so many ways and so many opportunities,” he said. “I look forward to seeing where the sequels to Mutant Mayhem are going to go. Not just the series, but the next movie because, you know, you’ve got Casey Jones waiting in the wings. You’ve got Krang out there, and you’ve got the Rock Soldiers and Neutrinos. So I’m, I’m pretty pumped.”
Casey Jones and Krang appeared in 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. As for Bebop, Rocksteady, Mondo Gecko, Wingnut, Ray Fillet, and more, fans watched them in the latest Mutant Mayhem instalment, which also teases the arrival of Shredder to the Seth Rogen’s TMNT franchise.
Upon witnessing the critical and commercial success of ‘Mutant Mayhem’, Paramount has decided to greenlight its sequel with Jeff Rowe returning to helm it. ‘Mutant Mayhem’ has earned over $160 million globally and currently stands at a 97% ‘fresh’ score on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 226 reviews). Several prominent critics have declared the film the best-ever TMNT entry ever. Call it Sony’s Spider-Verse rip-off, but there is no denying that the film has heart.
Based on Mutant Mayhem’s final moments, it seems like the paths of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael will cross with Shredder in the upcoming sequel. Shredder serves as the archenemy of the turtles and their adoptive father, Splinter. Stay tuned for more updates.
