Although the Academy Award-winning psychological thriller film ‘Joker’ was initially intended to be a standalone movie, talks about a potential sequel have been doing the rounds ever since the parent film came out in the year 2019. And now, all the speculations have been laid to rest as the film’s director Todd Phillips has officially confirmed for the first time that Joker’s sequel is in the works.
Not just that, Todd Phillips also shared the front page of the eagerly anticipated sequel’s script, thereby revealing its title: ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’. In another picture, the original film’s protagonist Joaquin Phoenix can be seen reading the script for the Joker sequel. Phoenix had won an Oscar award for his performance in the first ‘Joker’ film. While Todd Phillips was nominated for the ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Direction’, and ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ categories. Moreover, the film had grossed over a whopping $1 billion at the box office globally.

The parent film ‘Joker’ is the origin story of the popular DC Comics supervillain Joker. The film follows a failed comedian Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) who is suffering from mental health issues. He lives in the 1980s Gotham City where unemployment and poverty are rampant. To make things worse, Arthur Fleck is bullied and mistreated. His problems compound and eventually transform him into a dreaded criminal mastermind who is known by the name Joker, his alter ego. The film also featured Robert De Niro in an important role.
Currently, the plot details for the Joker sequel ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ are being kept under the wraps. However, the film’s title includes the words “Folie a Deux”, which is a rare, shared delusional disorder that two people share and experience at the same time. This alludes to the possibility of inclusion of Joker’s associate Harley Quinn, a role which was played by Margot Robbie in ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ movies. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’ Joker sequel ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’.
