Thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic, web-based content is picking up across the globe. India looked like a nascent market for Digital Content at the start of the year but the Pandemic jumpstarted the Bull Run. Once the theatrical business is up, the films will be back to the theaters and the OTT platforms need to come up with interesting Originals to keep the audience interested.
Bollywood is making such projects with some of the notable actors taking the digital career seriously. Kollywood took the first major step in that direction with Putham Pudhu Kaalai , Amazon’s first Tamil anthology.
The anthology has big names like Kalyani Priyadarshan, Ritu Varma, Shruti Haasan, Suhasini Maniratnam, Anu Hasan, Andrea Jeremiah, Bobby Simha, and others in the cast. The Anthology also has star filmmakers in its ranks. Telugu film industry, one of the biggest industries in the country needs to up the ante and come up with a project like Putham Pudhu Kaalai to make digital content mainstream there. The Original shows and films in Telugu churned out by Regional OTT Platforms so far are not impressive. As of now, there are no such interesting projects on the anvil. Will such a project come before the film industry goes back to the normal? Let us see!
