After a spate of pandemic-induced postponements, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was finally released in theatres including India on 27th May 2022. The Tom Cruise starrer aerial action-adventure film is on a record-breaking spree after its release and has grossed over a massive $390 million at the box office worldwide.
Not just commercially, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has struck the right chords with the audiences and critics alike. Besides bagging the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes 2022, the movie currently holds an impressive 97% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is even higher at a whopping 99%.
But it seems that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is still in no mood to stop. Because now, the film has achieved yet another feat – this time on the renowned international movies portal IMDb. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has entered the highest rated top 250 movies of all time on IMDb and currently holds the 49th rank on the coveted list.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has an IMDb user rating of 8.7/10 based on more than 90k votes. And in doing that, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is now ahead of some fine Hollywood films including ‘Alien’, ‘The Shining’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, to name a few.
Interestingly, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is only the second movie from the year 2022 which has been included in IMDb’s top-rated films list. Previously, the widely acclaimed multiverse movie ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ had made its way to the coveted list but it has now been outranked by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
Helmed by Joseph Kosinski, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is set thirty years after the events of the 1986 parent film ‘Top Gun’ by Tony Scott. Tom Cruise is now a brave test pilot and a flight instructor. He trains a batch of Top Gun graduates for a special mission where he meets pilot trainee Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Miller), who is the son of Maverick’s best friend and former naval flight officer Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw.
