We have two bad news and one good news for Tom Cruise fans. Bad news first. The theatrical release for the seventh and eighth installments of Tom Cruise’s forthcoming potential blockbusters ‘Mission: Impossible’ film series have been postponed owing to the pandemic situation.
The release dates for ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ have been pushed to 14th July 2023 and 28th June 2024, respectively. Their previous release dates were 30th September 2022 and 7th July 2023.
And the good news is that the Tom Cruise starrer highly anticipated ‘Top Gun’ sequel titled ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which was previously delayed from 19th November 2021 to 27th May 2022, has retained its current release date of 27th May 2022.
The yet-untitled ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ and its sequel ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ are both being helmed by Christopher McQuarrie, who had previously directed the franchise’s two preceding films namely ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ (2015) and ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ (2018) besides also directing Tom Cruise in the action flick ‘Jack Reacher’.
Veteran Hollywood actor Tom Cruise will reprise his role as the Impossible Missions Force (IMF) agent Ethan Hunt and would continue his daredevil adventures in the sequels. Not many people might be aware that the ‘Mission Impossible’ film franchise is based on a television series of the same name.
The series, created by Bruce Geller, revolved around a team of secret American government agents called Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The series spanned two seasons comprising 35 episodes that were aired between 1988 to 1990.
While the first ‘Mission Impossible’ film (released in 1996) takes place six years after the events of the television series. The phenomenally successful film franchise spanning six films until now has grossed a whopping $3.5 billion at the box office worldwide.
