A new movie starring Tom Hardy has now been announced. Two times Academy Award winning actor Mahesrshala Ali will be joining Hardy in the movie. The movie has been titled ‘77 Blackout’ and it will be a crime thriller.
Cary Joji Fukunaga will be directing the movie. He has previously made the popular James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’, ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘Beasts Of No Nation’ and ‘IT’. Let us see what he does with actors of such caliber.
The movie will be set during a night in 1977 when five rogue police officers take up a mission of neutralizing three criminal gangs. The Hong Kong Triads, the Italian Mafia, and the Harlem Mob are the targets of the five men and they go on in an epic adventure while a blackout is carried out in the city. The 1977 New York blackout is one of the darkest moments in history which can be turned out to be a ‘purge’ style film trope in the movie. The five people navigate through the night mob and as they are underpaid and overworked for years, they have to face their conscience are morality while confronting the criminal syndicate.
Fukunaga was accused of inappropriate conduct during the filming of True Detective, and several other projects. And it will be curious to see if he finally gets to make the film and it is pulled off without any protests from audiences.
