Amazon Prime Video has just dropped the first teaser for its next Bollywood direct to digital release, Toofaan. The two-minute-long teaser gives us an idea of what the story is about, and where it leads to. Ajju Bhai (Farhan Akhtar) is a petty, two-bit “gunda” type character, who loves beating up those that mess with him. The man with the solid fist and lightning punches is coerced by his lady love, played by Mrunal Thakur, to get down into the boxing ring and put his innate talent to better use than being a gangster.
Paresh Rawal plays his boxing coach, who guides Ajju Bhai into becoming Aziz Ali, the unbeatable boxer. And Toofaan is born! The narrative of Toofaan seems to be the classic story of a rough unpolished stone going through the rigors to emerge a gem. Or as in Aziz’s case – a breeze gathers steam to become a storm. Just as, when a person asks Paresh Rawal’s character where he found the gem, he says Aziz is not a gem, he’s a storm.
Farhan Akhtar brings a similar intensity to Toofaan as his Milkha in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the latter from the same team. Both films are the product of writer-director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra. Toofaan has been produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ROMP Pictures.
Besides Farhan Akhtar, Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal, Toofaan has Vijay Raaz, Supriya Pathak Kapur, Darshan Kumar, Hussain Dalal and Dr Mohan Agashe in crucial roles.
Toofaan premieres on Amazon Prime Video on 21st May 2021. Have a look at the teaser –
