Another Friday, another (epic) WandaVision episode. This penultimate one, even if it is not as good as the previous two, was still a very important episode. Most of our questions were finally answered – probably all of them, but now we are at the very end of the series and we still have not had a crazy epic Avengers cameo yet. But it has become even more apparent who will turn up in the next episode, going by the ending of this one, which is titled ‘Prevously On’. For now, check out these 10 easter eggs, references and call backs we found in Disney+ Hotstar’s WandaVision Episode 8:
1. Agatha Is Taking Over
Agatha is literally taking over the show. The red opening credit title card, turned purple (which is the colour of Agatha’s magic). We get a quick flashback to 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, where Agatha first rose to power. But this episode is basically Agatha and Wanda going down Wanda’s memory lane and finding out what caused the whole Westview debacle.
2. The Power of Runes
Agatha restrains Wanda with some particular runes. If you guys want to know where we have seen them before, it was seen in two other movies mainly, Doctor Strange and Thor. Doctor Strange creates runes out of his magic in mid-air, to perform more complex magics, while in the movie Thor, Thor’s father Odin casts a spell on Mjolinor and the spell turns into runes, enforcing the enchantment. Runes are very powerful, so powerful that it stopped Thor from lifting his hammer, as he didn’t fulfil the circumstances of the runes which allowed Mjolinor to be lifted.
3. Magic Different From The Sorcerer Supreme
We always knew that there were magic users who were different from Doctor Strange – Wanda being a prime example, but a cult just like the one following the Sorcerer Supreme exists, who use their own form of magic – Rune carvings, Possession, Transmutation, Mind Control And Probability Hex was a surprise entirely. All these aforementioned magics are not used by any of the magic users from Kamar Taj and most of it is not allowed to be studied.
4. Agatha Takes Wanda’s Hair
A call back to Doctor Strange plucking out Thor’s hair to make the necessary changes in a spell so that an Asgardian can get influenced by it, from Thor: Ragnarok. In this case however, Agatha uses Wanda’s hair to take Wanda and see her worst nightmares.
5. Wanda’s History
Most of Wanda’s history was explained away in the movies. But we actually get to see her origins play out and see the dreaded Stark missile that had her and her brother trapped in their destroyed home for two days. A nice callback.
6. Wanda’s Obsession With TV Sitcoms
Wanda was obsessed with sit-coms from a very young age. We see that she carried that obsession through the Hydra experimentations and after her brother’s death in the Avengers compound. We also get a few TV call backs from the Dick Van Dyke Show and Malcolm in the Middle, giving us an idea about which TV shows influenced her and helped in the creation of her very own real-time “sit-com life”.
7. Wanda Had Powers Before The Mind Stone Incident?
Agatha mentions that Wanda had powers before the Mind Stone incident. In the comics, this is true, as she comes from a long line of powerful witches – witches who wore red capes and wielded uncontrollably powerful magic. Agatha also notes that Wanda casted a probability hex on the Stark missile on accident, hence saving herself and her brother.
8. Hayward Lied, Wanda Created A New Vision
So the footage Director Hayward had shown the team was doctored, if you guys are willing to go back and see it. Wanda didn’t take Vision from the SWORD facility and instead created another Vision from scratch. What’s interesting is that Hayward most likely gave her the idea.
9. Chaos Magic and The Scarlet Witch
Finally! The Scarlet Witch has been mentioned. But unlike Iron-man, Spider-man, Captain America and Hawkeye which were code names/ Superheros names, The Scarlet Witch is a title which is passed down from witch to witch who can control chaos magic – magic so powerful and unheard of, that even Doctor Strange can’t use it (in the comics at least) and it can be used manipulate, warp and reconstruct the very fabric of reality and existence. If Wanda wishes it, she can cause destruction to the cosmos.
10. White Vision
This might be the main villain of this Marvel series – White Vision and Director Hayward, who will be manipulating him. In the comics, after Vision died, he lost all colour and became this completely white being. When he got resurrected, Vision still had his powers, but had lost his soul, making him a very powerful A.I. It will be interesting to see if Wanda or the Vision-created-by-Wanda will be able to defeat him.
