2020 has been quite a revelation in terms of the content that was being produced by the leading OTT platforms. More and more emphasis was given to content that directly connected to the local audience, and quite a lot of experimentation also took place.
In such times we would like to bring to you some of the top female performers who have carved out a niche for themselves and stamped their authority.
Urvashi ( Kavitha Ranjini):
While many actors and people related to the entertainment industry have struggled to adapt to the current surroundings, Urvashi which is the stage name for the supremely talented Kavitha Ranjini has had a stellar relationship with the OTT environment this year. The veteran actress has been a part of Soorarai Pottru, Mookuthi Amman, Varane Avashyamund, and Putham Pudhu Kaalai. She won a lot of praise for the acting prowess, and at 51 years of age, she certainly shows no signs of stopping. The veteran won hearts all over the place as she displayed her impressive skills. Rasika Dugal:
Rasika Dugal is one of those fine talents who has had her fair share of struggle even though she is incredibly talented. 2020 can easily be called a special year for her as she starred in some of the most awaited projects of the year. All her roles in (An Unsuitable Boy, Mirzapur 2 and Lootcase) were pivotal to the plot of each story, and she certainly didn’t let us down whether it was Beena Bhabhi from Mirzapur or Lata in Lootcase.
Shweta Tripathi:
Shwetha Tripathi has enjoyed her fair share of success, and the OTT platforms have certainly helped her bolster her presence. Shwetha Tripathi played one of the most essential roles of 2020 as Gollu urf Gajgamini Gupta in Mirzapur 2 as we saw her transform from a timid to a badass girl. Shwetha Tripathi also played crucial roles in projects like Gone Game which was one of India’s most unique psychological thriller and Raat Akeli hai which was applauded by the audiences and critics alike.
Anupriya Goenka:
Anupriya Goenka has grown to prominence due to the uprising of the OTT platforms, and she even landed significant roles in films like War due to her performances. Anupriya Goenka has continued the excellent form as she is seen as an important character in Aashram 2, which notched up some of the highest viewership numbers in India. She was also part of ASUR which blew up and was appreciated by the likes of many and put Voot in a strong position to become a top contender in the local OTT game.
Shriya Pilgaonkar:
Shriya Pilgaonkar who is the daughter of the incredibly talented celeb couple Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar. She has done quite a few roles in big movies but has carved out a special place for herself in the OTT space. She had an immediate impact with the role of Dimpy in Mirzapur and though she didn’t have any part in Season 2 of the much-acclaimed series she did play vital roles in Gone Game and Crackdown which have helped cement her place in the OTT atmosphere.
While the year may have been filled with ups and down some of the women in the entertainment industry still managed to create a significant impact with the help of the OTT space, and that can be clearly seen through the characters that they have essayed. They have shown us that strong women-centric characters do exist and can have quite an impact on the viewer.
