Top 5 Hindi Hollywood Adaptations To Watch Before Laal Singh Chaddha

Top 5 Hindi Hollywood Adaptations To Watch Before Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir Khan‘s much-anticipated remake of Forrest Gump, Laal Singh Chaddha, is nearly a couple of months away from hitting the theatres. Tom Hanks made the character of Gump prominent with his spellbinding performance and bagged the Oscar for Best Actor in 1995. No doubt that Aamir must be looking to do something like that with the help of his upcoming project. But before enjoying Laal Singh Chaddha, here are the top 5 Hindi Hollywood adaptations to watch.

Dostana (2008)

Dostana’s plot is inspired by the movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James. The latter film faced the wrath of critics. However, Dostana was considered a major improvement over the original Hollywood project. One of the rare moments in Bollywood! Dostana shows two single men pretending to be gay to share a flat with a girl. It stars John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra.

Peepli Live (2010)

Both Peepli Live and Invitation to a Suicide (2004) pretty much have the same concept. A man faces a financial crisis and others start taking advantage of his terrible situation. Although, the former also explores the matter of farmer suicides in India, making it a perfect blend of satire and comedy. Aamir Khan and his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, co-produced this one.

 Ghulam (1998)

Ghulam served as the remake of Sanjay Dutt’s Kabzaa (1988), which was also helmed by Mahesh Bhatt. And Kabzaa’s storyline shared many similarities with Elia Kazan’s On the Waterfront (1954). The original Hollywood masterpiece had Marlon Brando as the protagonist. Ghulam’s box office success strengthened the careers of Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherji.

 Baazigar (1993)

Ajay (Shah Rukh Khan) takes revenge on a billionaire for his father’s death by luring his daughters into romantic relationships with him. Baazigar bestowed Khan his breakthrough role in Bollywood. Additionally, it was Kajol’s first hit movie and Shilpa Shetty’s debut. Its plot is loosely based on Matt Dillon’s A Kiss Before Dying (1991).

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

A gangster becomes a medical student with the help of his goon comrades in this Rajkumar Hirani’s directional. Apart from being Hirani’s debut helming project, it also showcased the last ever on-screen appearance of the late legend Sunil Dutt. However, its plot looks similar to Robin Williams’ Patch Adams (2003). Yet, it performed way better than the original Hollywood entry. Thanks to Boman Irani’s outstanding performance as dean J.C., perfect execution of the storyline, memorable songs, and the unforgettable chemistry between Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) and Circuit (Arshad Warsi).
