Top 5 Kamal Haasan Movies To Stream Before Watching Vikram

By Binged Bureau - May 31, 2022 @ 07:05 pm
Top 5 Kamal Haasan Movies To Stream Before Watching Vikram

Kamal Haasan! The man who can do almost anything! Apart from entertaining the moviegoers with his mesmerising work for over 60 years, he has also established himself as a highly influential figure in Indian cinema. From sowing the seeds of his acting career as a child artist in Kalathur Kannamma (1960) to sharing the screen with talents like Vijay Sethupati and Fahadh Faasil in Lokesh Kanagraj’s upcoming action thriller, Vikram, the legendary actor has indeed travelled a long journey in the world of cinema. Here are his top 5 movies to stream!

5/5 – Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989)

Streaming platform: Eros Now

Haasan is prominent for exhibiting his acting talents in conventionally shot films and projects brimmed with eccentric experimentations. This one functions as a perfect blend of both cases with just enough pinches of emotions and masala. Viewers witnessed not one or two but three different forms of the actor in this one. First, he portrays Sethupati, an honest police officer who gets murdered by four notorious hotshots. They also poison his wife. Somehow, she manages to give birth to twins – Raja, a grownup mechanic and Appu, a dwarf. The brotherly duo unites to take revenge for their father’s death from those criminals.

4/5 – Pushpak Vimana (1987)

Streaming platform: Amazon Prime Video

The iconic duo of Kamal Haasan and filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao never missed an opportunity to deliver an out-of-the-box movie watching experience to viewers. And the third collaboration between these two ended up doing the same. Plus, the no-dialogue approach worked like a charm here. Imagine displaying your emotions without even uttering a single word. But the leading man and the rest of his comrades did a hell of a job in that department. An unemployed graduate abducts a drunk rich man in hopes of living his life like him. But he is unaware of the fact that a hired killer wants to take the rich man’s life.

3/5 – Anbe Sivam (2003)

Streaming platform: Netflix

Despite being a box office failure at the time of its release, this Sundar C masterpiece has solidified itself as one of the greatest cult movies in the history of Tamil cinema over the years. The wildly unexpected but satisfying pair of Haasan and Madhavan works like a charm on the audience. This film explores the contrasting personalities and beliefs of two men: Nallasivam (Haasan) and Anbarasu (Madhavan). In addition to this, it also sheds some light on topics like atheism, humanism, altruism, and many more.

2/5 – Mahanadhi (1994)

Streaming platform: Amazon Prime Video

Kamal Haasan penned down Mahanadhi’s script after discovering the plan of his domestic help to abduct his daughters in real life in exchange for a ransom. This incident prompted the actor to make a film about it. According to him, “the script wrote itself”. The film’s plot revolves around a widower, Krishnaswamy. He gets lured by a con artist, Dhanush, and becomes a member of his chit fund business. Unaware of his partner’s deceitful plans, Krishna gets blamed for all the money stolen by Dhanush via his chit fund business. This scenario starts a series of miseries in Krishna’s house, affecting everyone close to him.

1/5 – Nayakan (1987)

Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video

Nayakan is undoubtedly one of the finest works of Mani Ratman. Additionally, it treasures one of the best performances of Kamal Haasan’s career. The actor plays the protagonist, Velu, in this one. He rises as a feared and ill-famed don after going through various phases of his life, including his early days as a typical slum dweller. Haasan’s top-notch performance aided him in bagging the National Award for Best Actor.
