Top 5 OTT Releases This Week: From Chhaava To Black Mirror

This week (April 7–13, 2025) is heating up with a powerhouse lineup of OTT releases that span epic mythology, gritty thrillers, and returning fan-favourite series. From Vicky Kaushal’s much-anticipated Chhaava hitting Netflix to the mind-bending return of Black Mirror, and a quirky murder mystery set in a toddy shop, there’s something for every kind of binge-watcher.

Here’s a look at the top 5 OTT releases that deserve a spot on your watchlist this week.

5. Pravinkoodu Shappu (SonyLIV, April 11)

Sreeraj Sreenivasan’s Malayalam comedy Pravinkoodu Shappu revolves around a murder within a toddy shop. Its praised plot unfolds through a series of events, culminating in a mysterious death that disrupts a small community, effectively blending narrative and mystery.

The film is led by the trio of Basil Joseph, Soubin Shahir, and Chemban Vinod Jose. It received mixed reviews upon its theatrical release. While the acting performances and occasional use of dark humour were praised, critics largely took issue with its slow pacing.

4. The Legend of Hanuman Season 6 (JioHotstar, April 11)

Season 6 of The Legend of Hanuman will focus heavily on Hanuman’s greatest miracle: lifting and carrying the Sanjeevani Booti in a quest to save Laxman. Ravan uses psychological warfare against Ram, targeting Hanuman. Driven by devotion, Hanuman journeys across lands and oceans in search of the Sanjeevani Booti.

This season emphasises mental battles alongside physical ones, highlighting Hanuman as a symbol of hope and resilience. The series, in partnership with JioHotstar, aims to elevate Indian animation while showcasing the enduring relevance of Indian mythology.

3. The Gardener (Netflix, April 11)

The Gardener, premiering April 11, 2025, on Netflix, introduces Elmer — a man devoid of emotion due to an accident — who works at a garden center secretly operated as a murder-for-hire front by his manipulative mother, La China Jurado. When Elmer is tasked with killing Violeta, a nursery school teacher, he unexpectedly falls in love.

This romantic thriller follows Elmer’s struggle to navigate love while his mother plots Violeta’s demise. Filmed in Madrid, Toledo, and Pontevedra, the six-episode series stars Álvaro Rico, Cecilia Suárez, and Catalina Sopelana, supported by a notable ensemble cast.

2. Black Mirror Season 7 (Netflix, April 10)

The groundbreaking Netflix anthology series Black Mirror returns with Season 7, delivering six new episodes that delve into technology’s dark side, moral quandaries, and social issues. Notably, it features a sequel to “USS Callister” — a first for the series. Expect a mix of futuristic scenarios, dark humour, and explorations of the human condition.

The upcoming season features the likes of Cristin Milioti, Paul Giamatti, Emma Corrin, Rashida Jones, Issa Rae, Awkwafina, and Peter Capaldi.

1. Chhaava (Netflix, April 11)

After roaring through and shattering multiple box office records during its incredible theatrical run, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is all set for its OTT release on Netflix on April 11, according to reports. However, the streamer has yet to make an official announcement.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan (under Maddock Films) and helmed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Diana Penty, Neil Bhoopalam, Divya Dutta, Ashutosh Rana, Vineet Kumar Singh, and more.
