And the final shoe drops! What an episode!
A couple of hours ago, the penultimate episode of the MCU Phase 4 series, ‘Hawkeye’, dropped and it was epic. The cliffhanger at the very end will definitely have everyone on their toes. And as per usual, this episode too had some important Easter Eggs, callbacks and references that made the whole watch even more brilliant. Since we didn’t talk about the Easter eggs from the last episode as well, here are 8 Easter Eggs, callbacks and references that you should note in the episodes 4 and 5 of ‘Hawkeye‘!
Sloan Limited
In the 4th episode, Clint and Kate discover that Jack had some illegal dealings with the Tracksuit gang and he was using Sloan Limited, a dummy company to launder money. It could be referencing Walker Sloan from the comics who was the CEO of the research company, Alchemax. Also, Alchemax was owned by Wilson Fisk, who is better known as…. (Check the very last one).
Laura’s Past
This is a surprise. Laura Barton, Clint’s wife spoke in German to her husband to continue a conversation they didn’t want their kids to understand. So what could this mean? Was she a SHIELD agent at one point and then decided to settle down after marrying Clint? Was she an official translator who met Clint on a job? Many theories… No real conclusive answer.
Well, there is a chance that she she could have been Mockingbird, an agent of SHIELD, who then went on to change her name from Barbara to Laura. Hopefully, this will get cleared up soon.
New Suits
Nice. Every MCU Phase 4 superhero series features our favourite characters in new suits and ‘Hawkeye’ is no exception. However, it looks like we will have to wait for the final episode for the suits to finally be shown on screen. Any bets on the suits not being purple?
Yelena
Finally. Natasha’s sister finally makes an appearance on Hawkeye. We get a look into her background from before the Snap and after it. While the fourth episode only gave us a can’t, the fifth episode gave us a lot more Yelena. And what she thought about Hawkeye.
Major Avengers References
Snap Reference 1 – Yelena disappears and reappears.
Snap Reference 2 – New and Improved Statue of Liberty.
Avengers Assembles Reference – Clint stands in front of an Avengers monument.
A few major movie references that didn’t make it into the original movies but will likely be important in future MCU events.
Hawkeye & Black Widow
After a long time, we finally see Hawkeye and Black Widow sit next to each other again. Granted it is not Clint and Natasha, but we got the next best thing; the people they are passing on the mantle to – Kate and Yelena. While the interaction was funny at times while tense during others, it is something to look forward to in the future.
Ronin
We thought we saw the last of Ronin in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. However, Clint suits up as the murdering vigilante one more time to put Maya AKA Echo in her place. Let’s see if we will see this character pop up in the future.
Kingpin
Whhhhaaaatttt?! We knew about the Sloan Linited reference but we didn’t think that Wilson Fisk AKA the Kingpin would actually turn up in the MCU. Daaaaaamn. What would make this more awesome would be if Daredevil showed up in the final episode of ‘Hawkeye’ – which will likely not happen (but not as unlikely as one would think). The best part of this? Vincent D’onofrio returns to reprise the role of Kingpin. We can’t wait to see him next week and find out why Eleanor is working with the Kingpin.
All five episode of ‘Hawkeye’ is currently available for streaming in India on Disney+ Hotstar.
