The Coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc with the shooting and release schedules of popular streaming and TV shows. Long-drawn production shutdowns meant that new seasons of popular shows were delayed interminably. Most shows had a gap of at least two years, before their next seasons could make their way to our screens. Some returned with curtailed seasons, while several shows chose to release their new seasons in two parts to overcome the unforeseen delays.
All that, however, is a thing of the past. 2022 has seen new seasons of tons of popular shows. Killing Eve, Bridgerton, Elite, among others were a few returning shows in the first quarter of the year. Several well-loved shows return with their new seasons in the second half of April. We bring you the top ones. Here you go –
1. Better Call Saul Season 6 Part 1 – Netflix, April 19
Better Call Saul Season 6 is the final season of the AMC show. It is easily one of the most keenly anticipated returning shows of the year. The thrilling, bewitching journey of small-town hustler Jimmy McGill into canny criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) comes to a smashing end. To add to the excitement, there’s news that Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston (Walter White) and Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) will make an appearance in the finale season of Better Call Saul. Better Call Saul Season 6 consists of 13 episodes and will air in two parts – Part 1 premieres in India on May 19, and Part 2 on July 12.
2. Russian Doll Season 2 – Netflix, April 20
A time loop show, Russian Doll centres on a coder, a woman who’s stuck in a weird loop wherein she repeatedly attends a party on her 36th birthday, dies at the end of the night, but wakes up unharmed the next day, only to have the same events play out on loop. Natasha Lyonne has created the show, and also stars in it. Russian Doll Season 2 has an exciting new cast member in the form of Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek). The dark comedy returns on April 20 on Netflix.
3. The Flight Attendant Season 2 – HBO Max, April 21
HBO Max’s flagship show ‘The Flight Attendant’ might not be streaming in India as of now. But interest of Indian streaming buffs in the show is massive. The Flight Attendant centres on a flight attendant who wakes up in a Bangkok hotel room with a dead man, with no memory of the events of the night. With her back to the wall, she tries to get to the bottom of the mystery of the killer and the killed. Kaley Cuoco plays the titular role in the show. The Flight Attendant Season 2 premieres on HBO Max on April 21.
4. Barry Season 3 – Disney Plus Hotstar, April 24
Barry, starring Bill Hader in the titular role, is easily one of the best dark comedies of current times. Bill Hader stars as a hitman who discovers a love for acting when he travels to Los Angeles to kill a target. Barry’s passion for his new-found love is so great that he’s ready to leave his old life behind. Subsequent seasons of Barry are all about the former hitman’s journey of repentance, redemption and reinventing himself. Barry Season 3 premieres on Disney Plus Hotstar on April 24.
5. Grace And Frankie Season 7 Part 2 – Netflix, April 29
Season 7 is the final season of the much-loved comedy show, Grace And Frankie. It stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in the title roles of Grace and Frankie. The women aren’t particularly fond of each other. But fate has other plans for them. One fine day, their husbands Robert (Martin Sheen) and Sol (Sam Waterston) announce that they love each other and are getting married. That leaves Grace and Frankie to live together, spawning multiple hilarious situations. The final episodes of Grace And Frankie premiere on Netflix on April 29.
6. Ozark Season 4 Part 2 – Netflix, April 29
Easily one of the best-loved crime dramas on Netflix, the award-winning show bids its final adieu to the platform and its fans on April 29. Ozark Season 4 Part 1 has come and gone, and now its time for Ozark Season 4 Part 2 to premiere this month. Jason Bateman and Laura Linney star as married couple Marty and Wendy Bryde, that gets embroiled in money-laundering operations for a dangerous drug lord. The series has kept viewers hooked with intriguing twists and turns in its runtime. The finale promises a satisfying end to its riveting story. Ozark Season 4 Part 2 premieres on Netflix on April 29.
