Malayalam language courtroom drama ‘Vaashi‘ starring Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles released last week and sources confirm that streaming rights of the film has been acquired by Netflix India. The streaming platform however hasn’t made an official confirmation yet.
Vaashi follows Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh as two young lawyers Ebin and Madhavi, respectively. They are good friends and colleagues trying to make their careers at the courtroom. Both Ebin and Madhavi are reluctant to accept their friendship as love. But the crux of the film lies in how ‘love’, ‘affection’ and ‘friendship’ acquire different meanings in a legal battle around ‘consent for sex’ that ensues between the two.
The film takes a look at legal loopholes and how gravious yet disregarded is the concept of Consent when it comes to relationships in India. The film also shows how two friends end up at two ends of a case, one representing the accused and the other representing the victim thereby straining their relationship. Both Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh are applauded for their respective performances. However, the box office returns of the film has been dismal.
However, considering the reception of Jana Gana Mana on Netflix, one could expect the film to do better and grab more eyeballs once it begins streaming on Netflix. Janiz Chacko Simon wrote the screenplay and Vishnu Raghav directed ‘Vaashi’. The film is most likely to drop on Netflix on or before 17th July.
