The trailer for ALTBalaji and Zee5 Club upcoming original series ‘Paurashpur’ is out and it’s everything grandiose. The series is a fantasy period drama set in the kingdom of Paurashpur where gender inequality has reached its ugliest level. ‘Paurashpur’ will release on ALTBalaji and Zee5 on 29th December, 2020.
The trailer begins with daunting visuals of the royal palace of Paurashpur with the narrator telling how the fate of the queens of that palace leads them to just photos on its walls. The ruler of Paurashpur is King Bhadrapratap Singh (Annu Kapoor) who is a sex addicted sadist man. To satisfy the King’s lust and save herself, Queen Meerawati (Shilpa Shinde) keeps bringing new queens to the palace.
But strangely these new queens keep disappearing. This time Queen Meerawati brings daasi Kala (Poulomi Das) as queen who already has an affair with Prince Yuvraj. After getting sexually assaulted by the King, Kala suddenly disappears from the palace creating a panic situation.
We further see Meerawati approaching Boris (Milind Soman), a person of third gender, where she tells him to stop practicing and start a war if he wants to seek revenge. Meerawati is also seen slitting the throat of the royal dance teacher Bhanu (Sahil Salathia) with whom she used to enjoy dancing, all in the hunger of power.
We also get glimpses of Veer Singh (Shaheer Sheikh), a trader who has come to Paurashpur for purposes unknown. In the end we can listen him saying that Paurashpur will fall and it is his love with someone not revealed that will make it fall. In the beginning and towards the end of the trailer we also some men wearing warrior dresses and wielding swords secretly gearing up for something that is about to happen.
‘Paurashpur‘ trailer makes it very clear that the story is about a powerful uprising that will be lead by women who have remained suppressed for ages in the kingdom. And to gain the power and her freedom, vengeful Queen Meerawati is ready to cross all limits, including going to her enemy for help.
ALTBalaji and Zee5‘s ‘Paurashpur’ is a grand royal affair with a vintage and ominous feel. The aesthetics of the show are something to look forward to apart from the spectacular performances from the lead actors specially Shilpa Shinde.
