Trailer Talk: Amazon Prime’s Soorarai Pottru Is A Gritty Soul-Stirring Drama

The trailer of Amazon Prime Video‘s Soorarai Pottru must easily count as one of the most awaited trailers in the Indian film industry, in the true sense of the term. People have been waiting for the trailer of Soorarai Pottru with tons and tons of anticipation. Well, the trailer of the movie landed on Amazon Prime Video today, along with the new release date. Soorarai Pottru will now premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 12th November, just in time for Diwali!

Soorarai Pottru is a fictionalised account of the real life story of Captain G. R. Gopinath, who spearheaded the formation of the first low cost airlines in India, enabling millions of Indians to fly – poor and lower middle class Indians who couldn’t otherwise afford air travel. Suriya plays the character called Maara in Soorarai Pottru. The 2-minute trailer depicts Maara’s character as a small-time villager with big dreams – he wants to see every Indian flying the skies, without high prices of air travel being a deterrent.

Poignant moments in the trailer show how the man is ridiculed and scoffed at for harbouring an outlandish dream; also his grit and determination to fight for his dreams in the face of all odds. And when the big guys realize that Maara is not to be stopped, they do everything in their power to make his enterprise fail. The trailer brims with inspiring and soul-stirring moments, culminating in a hard-won and infinitely sweet victory for Maara.

Soorarai Pottru is directed by Sudha Kongara, and has been adapted from Captain G.R. Gopinath’s autobiography, Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey.

Besides Suriya, Soorarai Pottru stars Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal and Dr M Mohan Babu. It is produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and co-produced by Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment.

Soorarai Pottru releases on Amazon Prime Video on 12th November.
