Trailer Talk: Netflix’s Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare Celebrates Female Sexuality

By Binged Bureau - Sep 04, 2020 @ 12:09 pm

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare TrailerNetflix released the trailer for Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare and it is all about the celebration of a woman’s freedom. This Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor produced film (under the banner Balaji Telefilms) is looking to break Indian stereotypes about women.

The trailer starts off with two sisters Kajal (Bhoomi Pednekar) and Dolly (Konkana Sen Sharma), with Dolly expressing her happiness that her sister is coming to stay with her and her family in Noida. Ten seconds later, Kajal tells Dolly that her husband wants to have sex with her, to which Dolly responds by laughing semi-hysterically. And that is the opening 15 seconds of the promotional video.

The trailer shows a quick montage of Dolly and her husband Amit at odds with each other and him not being able to satisfy her in bed. Dolly meets a charismatic delivery boy (portrayed by Amol Parashar, known for the Wild Stone ads), with whom she has an affair with. Meanwhile Kajal goes to work for an online phone sex company called Red Rose Romance App, under the persona Kitty. She is disgusted by the men who talk to her and the work she has to do but stays there as no other place will offer her a decent job.

Dolly finds out about Kajal’s work situation and becomes angry with her and try to get her to leave the job; Kajal refuses as she gets paid well. Kajal eventually meets a guy named Pradeep, through the app and starts going out with him. This is followed by a montage of shots of Dolly & the young delivery boy and Kajal & Pradeep going out on several dates. But all good things must come to an end with them eventually being found out by the rest of the family.

The film explores the (Indian) society given roles for a woman, be it as a conventional housewife or a young single woman; the pressures and backhanded insults they face regularly. A woman deciding what she wants to do with her life and her body on her own and not caving to the pressures of the people around them is a major topic tackled in the film as well.

Both Bhoomi Pednekar and Konkana Sen Sharma are brilliant in this trailer when portraying this subject matter. Their supporting cast has also done some good work with the screen-writer Alankrita Shrivastava to be commended for her brilliant direction.

The movie is set to come out on Netflix on 18th September 2020. Watch the trailer down below.
