Trailer Talk: Netflix’s ‘Pieces Of A Woman’ Is Chasing Awards This Year!

Netflix released the trailer of ‘Pieces Of A Woman‘ mere minutes ago and after seeing the trailer, one can surely feel the pain of motherhood and the struggle a mother has to go during and after pregnancy.

The trailer starts off with Martha Carson (Vanessa Kirby) and her husband Sean Carson who are expecting a girl and they are really excited about it. We see Martha saying that she wants to bring her daughter into this world whenever the baby desired. Although their joy is short-lived because soon enough we see Martha going into labour and experiencing lot of pain during the birth. We learn that their baby only lived for a few minutes and then died.

This breaks Martha as being a mother she is unable to process grief of the miscarriage of her baby whom she yearned to be with. Plus the continuous dominance of her mother in her life starting from the fact that she always were against of the couple and now with the continuous taunts and suggestions of moving forward in life takes a toll on Martha’s mental health.

This also affects Sean who is a blue collar worker and has developed an addiction due to coping with the loss. The heart wrenching incident has also created a strain and distance in the relationship of Martha and Sean who were hoping that their baby would help them to come closer.

This leads to a high profile legal battle against the confused midwife who is accused of criminal negligence due to the failed birth attempt. The movie will be focusing on the emotional battles a parent goes through while coping up with their child’s loss.

Pieces Of A Woman, which has been directed by Kornél Mundruczó has already made ripples this year in several festivals. The major one of them being the 77th Venice Film Festival where Vanessa Kirby won the Volpi Cup for best actress for the movie.

The movie has been written by Kata Weber and stars Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, Sarah Snook, Molly Parker, Benny Safdie, Ellen Burstyn, Iliza Shlesinger, and others.

Judging by the trailer, the movie looks like a powerful, gut wrenching drama that will make the audience feel and think of the horrors of such accidents and what does people who have felt it must have gone through. With powerful performances by the cast, the movie surely looks like a strong contender in the upcoming awards season.

Talking about production, the movie has been produced by Bron Studios, Little Lamb and Creative Well Media. Martin Scorsese serves as the executive producer of the film.

Pieces Of A Woman will be arriving on selected theatres from 30th December 2020 and will be available on Netflix from 7th January 2021.
