Amidst an ever-growing spate of remakes and reboots, the hit 90s action movie ‘Under Siege’ that featured Steven Seagal in the lead role has reportedly (via Deadline) become the next in line to get a reboot. Forgoing theatrical release plans, the aforementioned reboot movie is slated to be directly released on streaming service HBO Max.
Timo Tjahjanto, who has earlier helmed films including ‘V/H/S/2’, ‘The Night Comes for Us’ and more recently a segment of ‘V/H/S/94’, has been roped in to direct the ‘Under Siege’ reboot. However, the involvement of Steven Seagal acting in the film is not yet confirmed.
In another recent development, Timo Tjahjanto is also purportedly being brought in to direct the ‘Last Train to New York’ – a remake of the Korean blockbuster zombie horror film ‘Train to Busan’.
The original 1992 film ‘Under Siege’, set in a US Navy battleship, revolves around a disgraced former Navy SEAL turned personal cook (Steven Seagal), who must use his very particular set of skills to stop a group of terrorists led by a disillusioned ex-CIA operative (Tommy Lee Jones) from taking control of the ship.
The critical and commercial success of ‘Under Siege’ was followed by a sequel titled ‘Under Siege 2: Dark Territory’. However, the sequel was not able to garner similar acclaim from viewers and critics alike.
Besides the remakes for ‘Train to Busan’ and now the ‘Under Siege’ reboot, Timo Tjahjanto’s forthcoming directorial projects include the action-comedy film ‘The Big Four’, the action-adventure movie ‘The Blind of the Ghost Cave: Angel’s Eyes’, and the third installment of the 2018 horror flick ‘May the Devil Take You’.
In case you want to watch the original ‘Under Siege’ film, you can stream the movie on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
