Malayalam cinema is been enjoyed and supported by any region despite its boundaries. The content, performance, and technical labour are its strength. However, a better understanding of the theme can be best understood using connectivity. To achieve this connectivity, the application of local language as a resource is necessary.
Two super hit movies of the Malayalam industry are all set to release on the over-the-top (OTT) platform which can be expected to break these constraints. ‘Operation Java’ and ‘Aaha’, both of which were released in the year 2021, are the latest stars of the sky.
‘Operation Java’ is a crime thriller flick written and directed by Tharun Moorthy which talks about cybercrime and movie piracy mafia. The movie is produced by V-Cinemas International and the technical departments include the handling of cinematography by Faiz Siddiq, editing by Nishadh Yusuf as well as the music by Jakes Bejoy which were brilliant at its peak.
The movie has an ensemble cast including Balu Varghese, Lukman Avaran, Binu Pappu, Irshad, Shine Tom Chacko, Mamitha Baiju, Vinayakan, Mathew Thomas, and Vinod Bose respectively. Various social issues like unemployment among youth, misuse of Information Technology, video piracy, etc. were discussed in the movie through the eyes of two interns for cyber cell aiding its officials. The movie will be released in a dubbed version of Hindi language on the Jio cinema platform.
‘Aaha’ is a sports-drama film directed by Bibin Paul Samuel and produced by Prem Abraham for Zsa Zsa Productions which spoke about tug-of-war and has an emotional narrative. The movie is written by Tobit Chirayath and technical departments include cinematography by Rahul Balachandran and music by Sayanora Philip along with Shiyad Kabeer which were average to mixed level.
The movie features actor Indrajith Sukumaran as the main lead along with actors Manoj K. Jayan, Amith Chakalakkal, Ashwin K Kumar, and Santhy Balachandran in supporting roles respectively. The movie talks about the very popular tug-of-war team of the 1980s and 1990s: Aaha Neeloor, who were on the top of their game for about fifteen years. The movie will be streaming on the 12th of September in its ‘Telugu’ dubbed version by Aha Telugu OTT platform.
However, the former was a commercial success and the latter didn’t make it into the box office albeit the movie had a satiable storyline.
