As many of you guys have already heard, Mohanlal’s next five Antony Perumbavoor produced feature films are heading towards OTT, to be released directly for streaming. This announcement was made after Antony’s demands were not met during the two separate meetings with theatre associations from Kerala, with one meeting even including the Minister of Culture, Saji Cheriyan. Because of this, the producer proclaimed that the biggest Malayalam film ever made, ‘Marakkar: Lion of The Arabian Sea’, will be streaming directly on Amazon Prime Video. And yesterday, it was announced that the Prithviraj directorial, ‘Bro Daddy’, will be heading towards Disney+ Hotstar.
With the confirmed streaming platforms for the two aforementioned movies, three films from the “Mohanlal OTT 5” remain, with unassigned OTT platforms. If you guys haven’t guessed already, the “Mohanlal OTT 5” refers to the previously mentioned; five Antony Perumbavoor produced Malayalam movies which star Mohanlal. The other films include the Joju Joseph directed ’12th Man’, Shaji Kailas’ ‘Alone’ and an untitled film which will be directed by Vysakh.
At the moment, ‘Marakkar’ is ready to be released for viewing – with the film winning three awards at the 67th National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film. ‘Bro Daddy’ finished its shooting over two months ago and we expect the post production phase of the film to wrap soon. ‘12th Man’ also wrapped its shooting more than a month back and is currently in the post production phase. Shaji Kailas’ ‘Alone’ was filmed in a record 18 days, having achieved this feat more than two weeks ago. For the time being, the Vysakh directorial has still not completed pre-production plans as of yet.
So, out of the remaining three movies, we expect ‘12th Man’ and ‘Alone’ to get a direct-to-OTT announcement in the coming weeks. With both films currently undergoing post production at the moment, we wouldn’t be surprised if Antony Perumbavoor is currently talking to other streaming platforms to release these films on an OTT. For now, we will have to wait and see.
