Pinocchio is probably the most famous Italian character for children. It was originally created in 1883 by Carlo Collodi.
A woodcarver called Geppetto carved it for puppet shows. The most famous characteristic of Pinocchio is his nose. Whenever he lies, his nose grows in length.
Regardless, this character is probably one of the most reimagined characters who has been reinvented in many books and movies.
The most famous among them is the 1940 Disney movie. But even after that, we have seen multiple appearances of the legendary character throughout the years.
2022 is going to be another special year for Pinocchio.
Two movies based on Pinocchio are Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and the other simply called Pinocchio.
The first one is getting released on Netflix and the other one on Disney+.
Yesterday itself, Netflix launched the teaser of their version of Pinocchio alongside an anticipated release date that is in December 2022.
So, Pinocchio and his story have always been dominated by Disney. We all have great memories with the character and it is always a delight to watch the new version.
But even after all these decades of reimagination, no film is even close to the 1940 version.
Guillermo del Toro showed us his capability as a director in movies like Nightmare Alley and Shape of Water.
It will even feature the voice of Christoph Waltz who is known for a gentle yet terrifying accent.
