In a recent development, Disney+ Hotstar’s head of PR and publicity, Shweta Poojari, has bid farewell to the company after nearly two years of service. The announcement was made by Poojari on her LinkedIn profile, where she expressed gratitude to her colleagues and industry peers.
This departure comes alongside another significant exit from the streaming giant, as Sidharth Shakdher, the executive vice president and chief marketing officer, has also resigned. Shakdher, a pivotal figure in the founding leadership team of Disney+ Hotstar, has been instrumental in shaping the platform into India’s largest premium video streaming service and the leading direct-to-consumer (D2C) subscription business in the country.
During his eight-year tenure, Shakdher played a key role in achieving several live-streaming world records, contributing to the platform’s growth, operations, data science, and advertising-supported video-on-demand (AVoD) business. He initially joined the company in 2016 as the senior vice president and growth head, later being promoted to EVP and CMO in January 2021.
Mind you it is a highly exciting time to be at Hotstar after months of disappointment. The platform is constantly registering great views in World Cup Matches and there are further plans as well. This is coming after the loss of IPL rights, HBO content and a massive decline in the number of subscribers.
These departures mark a significant change in the leadership landscape of Disney+ Hotstar, but these are nothing more than industry dynamics. Leadership keeps changing in the corporate world, we wish Hotstar all the best for future endeavours.
