Netflix’s latest offering, Mea Culpa, has proved that actor and filmmaker, Tyler Perry, is indeed critic-proof. Perry’s newest legal thriller has topped the streaming platform’s Global Top 10 list.
Despite its horrible critical reception, Mea Culpa has gained the top spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Film) list, with over 32 million hours of viewing and more than 16 million views. Trish Sie’s Players, starring Gina Rodriguez, ranks second on the list with over 7.4 million views. Most of the entries from the Despicable Me franchise, except Despicable Me 3, are no longer available on the list.
In addition, Britney Spears’ critically panned film, Crossroads (2002), has found a spot on Netflix’s Top 10 list, with more than 3.7 million views.
Mea Culpa follows Mea (played by Kely Rowland), an ambitious and talented criminal defense attorney who wants to achieve the position of partner at her law firm. This scenario inspires her to take the case of a popular artist who gets accused of killing his girlfriend.
Apart from Kelly Rowland, Perry’s latest directional stars Trevante Rhodes, Nick Sagar, Sean Sagar, RonReaco Lee, Shannon Thornton, Angela Robinson, and more. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a ‘rotten’ score of 21%. Plus, its audience score currently lies at 37%.
Helmed by Tyler Perry, Mea Culpa arrived on Netflix on February 23. Stay tuned for more updates.
