Four rare short films from Studio Ghibli will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival soon. In an unprecedented turn of events, the films will be screened along with the award giving ceremony of the prestigious Palme d’Or.
Studio Ghibli will receive the award for their inspiring contribution to the world of movies. This is the first time that the Palme d’Or is being given to a group of filmmakers.
The short films to be screened at the event include ‘Mei and the Baby Cat Bus’ which was filmed in 2002, ‘House Hunting’, ‘Boro The Caterpillar’ and ‘Mr. Dough And The Egg Princess’. Among these, ‘Mei and the Baby Cat Bus’ is going to be the sequel to My Neighbour Totoro. The 1988 film tells the story of two sisters who shift to rural Japan with their parents to live there. There they find a huge and cute magical creature and all his friends, and soon go on wonderful magical adventures together.
It comes as a huge news to fans of Ghibli movies. Last year, Hayao Miyazaki, the founder of Ghibli Studio, brought his film ‘The Boy And The Heron’, which is being considered as a swan song of his craft. Now, fans are getting to see four rare films from the studio. But when the movies will be available in the streaming platforms is not known yet.
