The psychological horror revolves around Chris, a young black man, who drops a visit to his white girlfriend’s estate to meet her parents. As he starts unearthing disturbing and horrifying secrets, he realises that his girlfriend’s family uses Black people for sinister purposes. This forces Chris to escape from the estate before he becomes their next victim.
Jordan Peele’s debut directional project, Get Out, received four nominations at the 90th Academy Awards. Peele won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Critics heavily praised how the sensitive topic of racism was handled in the film. It was also commended for its flawless and effective utilisation of horror elements, bestowing a tense and creepy watching atmosphere to the viewers.
As for the performances, the cast performed amazingly well, particularly Daniel Kaluuya. Many considered Peele’s direction a revolution, as his work also pushed the boundaries of the horror genre.
Get Out collected over $255 million globally against its small $4.5 million budget. It is streaming on Netflix. It stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Catherine Keener, and more.
