From capes to caves, David F. Sandberg has seen it all. Filmmaker David F. Sandberg, known for his work on movies like “Annabelle: Creation and” “Shazam!” is set to direct the film adaptation of the horror video game “Until Dawn” from PlayStation Productions and Screen Gems. “Until Dawn,” a PlayStation video game released in 2015, revolves around 8 friends trapped on a remote mountain retreat who realize they are not alone. Their survival depends on navigating through dread and fear throughout the night.
The game, featuring Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere in motion-capture roles, gained recognition and was included in Variety’s 2021 list of games deserving film adaptations. The project is produced by Gary Dauberman under his Coin Operated banner, alongside Sandberg and Lotta Losten from Mangata, Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions.
Gary Dauberman, screenwriter for “It: Chapter Two” and “The Nun,” is currently working on the script, originally penned by Blair Butler, writer of “The Invitation.” While the plot remains undisclosed, it is said to be R-rated and one-of-the-kind surprise in the horror genre. The project is produced by Gary Dauberman under his Coin Operated banner, alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions.
Dauberman, who recently secured a first-look deal with Screen Gems and Sony for horror films, is also working on the adaptation of Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” for Warner Bros. As the night falls and fear rises, let’s see if Until Dawn brings shivers down our spines.
