Saiju Kurup is going to be leading an interesting film, ‘Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan’. This Malayalam feature is expected to make its way into theatres by the end of this month – so it is quite surprising that no promotional video regarding the film – be it a teaser, trailer or song/music video – has made an appearance on social media. However, the film has a trailer and it has already dropped… but it can only be viewed by a select few at the moment. And the brilliant promo has us excited for this upcoming film.
So… who are these “select few”? Well, for the time being, only people who live in the state of Kerala can see this trailer. And if they want to watch the trailer, then they will have to watch a film in the theatre to check out the promotional video. We wouldn’t be surprised if this trailer will be available for viewing in theatres outside of Kerala – which they will show while screening Malayalam films. Still, if you are in Kerala watching a movie, the trailer for ‘Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan‘ should be showing for you guys as well.
As for the film plot, it reminds us of a brilliant Malayalam film that had been released for streaming on the OTT platform, SonyLIV – ‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam’. Similar to this movie, ‘Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan’ is based on a movie about a young woman who is being forced into a marriage against her wishes. While the SonyLIV film shows us from the point of view of multiple characters, this theatrical release will primarily be shown from the point-of-view of Jayan, the uncle of the bride. Known for his rowdy-ish behaviour, people in his village call him, Gunda Jayan. While the bride and her uncle are close, he too is forcing his young niece to get married because her to-be-husband is a man who is settled abroad, and she will be able to live a better life than anyone in their family. There is more to the trailer, but this is the main gist of the plot. It is expected to be a comedy-drama and we can’t wait for the film to drop.
‘Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan’ is expected to release in theatres on January 28th 2022. The date may vary due to the sudden rise in Covid-19 and Omicron cases. For now, we will have to wait and see.
