The Telugu film industry is looking to open in July and August as the COVID cases are on a decline everywhere in the country. The pandemic makes things uncertain and also, with the kind of backlogs, there will be a huge rush of films at the box office for few months after the theaters open. So, some films will still take the OTT route despite the theaters’ re-opening.
We are told that Vishwak Sen’s Paagal and Nithin’s Maestro are in talks with various OTT platforms to skip the theatrical release. Chiranjeevi’s son-in-law Kalyaan Dhev’s Super Machi is also in talks. Keerthy Suresh’s Good Luck Sakhi is also vying for various proposals put forth by the OTT players. In case the deal is struck, the movie will be available in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam languages.
Meanwhile, Aha Video is also eyeing some small but promising films and is releasing them silently on OTT. One such film, Ardha Shathabhdam is releasing on June 11th. The Regional OTT player has also become a platform for dubbing filmmakers to off-load their films given the fact it is not a wise move to hold the films made on shoestring budgets for a long time. Moreover, they are unlikely to get favorable release slots any sooner.
