The U.S. rights for Indian filmmaker Ajitpal Singh’s very first feature film directorial project ‘Fire in the Mountains’ has been reportedly (via Variety) acquired by the reputed New York-based film distribution company Kino Lorber, whose core competency is art-house movies. For those not in the know, Ajitpal Singh had become a name to reckon with in the Indian entertainment industry circuit especially after he had helmed the widely acclaimed, riveting web series ‘Tabbar’ for the SonyLIV OTT platform.
‘Fire in the Mountains’ is a heart-warming story set in a Himalayan village that follows a mother’s dream to build a road so that she can take her wheelchair-bound son for physiotherapy. However, her husband acts as a deterrent because of his belief in a religious ritual called Jaagar. The film features Vinamrata Rai, Chandan Bisht, Harshita Tiwari, and Mayank Singh Jaira, amongst others. It has got a 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 8 reviews.
The movie was first showcased during the prestigious 2021 edition of the Sundance Film Festival around a year ago under the World Cinema Dramatic Competition segment. Subsequently, it was also a part of the virtual edition of one of the oldest and the most prestigious film festivals The New York Indian Film Festival, which was held in June 2021.
And now, after the U.S rights acquisition of ‘Fire in the Mountains’, ‘Fire in the Mountains’ is all set to open at the Film Forum in New York somewhere between the months of March to June this year. Thereafter, the film would make its way to U.S. and Canadian theatres followed by its release on various OTT platforms. Albeit the film is currently not streaming in India.
