‘Vaashi’ Makes a Gracious Splash on Netflix India Trends!

Malayalam language courtroom drama ‘Vaashi‘ starring Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles released on Netflix this Sunday and in two days made a gracious splash on Netflix India trending list. The film didn’t do well at the theatres when it released on June 17th. But looking at the way the film is recieved post its Netflix release, we can hope for better views.

Vaashi dropped on Netflix India this Sunday, on the 17th of July. In two days the film skyrocketed to #2 on Netflix India Overall trends list overtaking the likes of Manifest, Stranger Things S4, Resident Evil and Ante Sundaraniki. The film is also at #2 in Top 10 movies list of Netflix India. Jana Gana Mana was the last Malayalam courtroom drama that conquered Netflix trends for weeks. Looking at the reception of Vaashi on Netflix, one cannot fully rule out the film to be a healthy successor to Jana Gana Mana. However, since the subject Vaashi discusses is nothing similar to the ones Jana Gana Mana discussed, one cannot speculate on the trends definitely either.

Vaashi follows Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh as two young lawyers Ebin and Madhavi, respectively. They are good friends and colleagues trying to make their careers at the courtroom. Both Ebin and Madhavi later fall in love but their relationship itself gets tested when they get embroiled in a legal battle around ‘consent for sex’. The film takes a look at legal loopholes and how grave yet disregarded is the concept of Consent when it comes to relationships in India. The film also shows how two friends end up at two ends of a case, one representing the accused and the other representing the victim thereby straining their relationship. Despite both Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh grabbing positive critical reception, the box office returns of the film has been disastrous.

Let us hope the film manages to grab more eye-balls and continues to reign the Netflix India top 10 for few weeks. Janiz Chacko Simon wrote the screenplay and Vishnu Raghav directed ‘Vaashi’. Watch Vaashi on Netflix India now. Stay tuned.
