Sankranthi/Pongal 2022 is going to be as action-packed as the films hitting the big screen on the auspicious dates. Four high profile films, all with big, reigning stars of the South film industries, have locked Sankranthi and Pongal 2022 as their release dates. Surprised? Read on to know more!
Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati’s Telugu film “Bheemla Nayak” hits screens on 12th January 2022, a couple of days before Sankranthi. Next, Mahesh Babu’s Telugu biggie “Sarkaru Vaari Paata” arrives in cinemas on 13th January 2022. Prabhas’ pan-India multi-lingual film Radhe Shyam hits theatre screens on 14th January 2022, on the auspicious date of Sankranthi. Finally, Ajith Kumar’s hyped “Valimai” has also grabbed the lucrative Pongal 2022 date for its much-awaited release. Valimai has also not given any particular release date yet, just the occasion of Pongal 2022. Tamil superstar Vijay’s much-hyped action entertainer “Beast” was also eyeing a Pongal 2022 release date, but looks like that is not to be.
There is some speculation in the media that Vijay’s Beast may get a Summer 2022 release date. However, nothing is confirmed as of now.
This massive box office clash is something that was bound to happen. The Covid-19 pandemic has compelled films to constantly postpone their release dates. Not to say, shooting schedules too have gone for a toss this past year. Now, all big films with big stars are rushing to complete their films so that they can take advantage of the lull in the pandemic, and complete and release their films on time. The rush is not merely incidental. It is also financial. Huge monies are tied up in these big-budget films, as a consequence of which interest amount is piling high, thus raising the ultimate cost of production.
This massive box office clash is just of south films. Bollywood too is sitting on a huge stock-pile of big films with no release date yet. A similar scenario is likely to play out in Bollywood, once the biggies announce their release dates. Sooryavanshi, ’83, Shamshera, Prithviraj, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Jayeshbhai Jordar, and a huge YRF slate is waiting to be announced.
