Varun Dhawan has joined the cast of Sunny Deol led war drama ‘Border 2’. The original ‘Border’ released 27 years ago and after the roaring success of ‘Gadar 2’ last year, the filmgot a boast in the form of this sequel with anticipations of a similar or even better performance. ‘Border 2’ will release in theatres on 23rd January, 2026 eyeing the Republic Day holiday window.
‘Border’ came out in 1997 and was set during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. The film was based on the events of Battle of Longewala and was directed by J. P. Dutta who is known for his patriotic action war films. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar; JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta under their T-Series and JP Films banners respectively.
In addition to Sunny Deol, ‘Border’ also starred Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt and Sharbani Mukherjee.
Coming to ‘Border 2’, the film will once again see Sunny Deol in the lead and is directed by Anurag Singh (‘Kesari’, ‘Punjab 1984’, ‘Jatt and Juliet’ series, ‘Yaar Ammulle’). With Varun Dhawan’s addition to the cast, the film’s target audience will now span younger generation as well.
Dhawan was last seen on the big screen in the lead role in 2022 when ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ and ‘Bhediya’ released in theatres. Both the films performed well at the box office with praises for his performance. He has since had cameos in films like ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, ‘Munjya’ and ‘Stree’ alongside his direct-to-OTT film ‘Bawaal’ last year that also received mostly positive reviews.
Varun Dhawan’s upcoming films include highly anticipated action thriller ‘Baby John’, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’, ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ and Prime Video’s Raj & DK helmed series ‘Citadel: Hunny Bunny’.
