‘Citadel India’ starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha has been the talking point in Indian OTT space ever since it was announced. As per reports in the media, the wait for the series would not be as long as we dreaded with the project jumping into full gear and workshops for the lead actors rumored to start in November this year.
The series is being directed by the director duo Raj and DK. They are the creators of one of the biggest series on Indian OTT ‘The Family Man’, and the expectations are sky-high. The series will be the Indian spin-off for the Priyanka Chopra-Richard Madden starrer ‘Citadel’, one of the biggest series ever produced. ‘Citadel India’ though being a stand-alone series will also delve a bit into Priyanka’s character and fill in the blanks of what is not explored in ‘Citadel’. The series will be set in 90s India and will be an action-filled espionage series with the leads sporting special looks. The biggest flex? The series is being created by the Russo Brothers known for ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
‘Citadel India’ will mark Varun Dhawan’s much-awaited debut into the OTT space, while the series will be Samantha’s second collaboration with Raj and DK after ‘The Family Man’. The series’ shoot is rumored to last 3-4 months, and pre-production is in full swing as per reports. The series is set to release after the ‘Citadel’ premieres to expand the world-building already done in the latter, as with all spin-offs. Besides India, there are also Italian and Senegal spin-offs in development. ‘Citadel India’ is rumored to release towards the end of 2023.
The Russo Brothers it seems are making the next big connected universe on OTT with ‘Citadel’. The series is poised to be the big disruptor in the OTT space that Prime Video is hoping for. With the Lord of the Rings series not garnering as much as was expected out of such a big venture, Amazon’s next big bet will be ‘Citadel’ and its spin-offs.
