A spot of bad news coming in for fans of Varun Tej. The Telugu star’s keenly-awaited high-octane sports drama ‘Ghani’ has been postponed. The official Twitter handle of producers Geetha Arts announced the news this afternoon. Speculation on Ghani’s postponement had been rife in media circles for quite some time. The news is now official, thereby averting a clash with Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy. Both movies were to release on the same date – 24th December, 2021.
The Ghani team has given out a credible reason for postponing the much-awaited film. As per the release from the makers, Ghani has been created on a lavish scale, with no expense or effort spared in its making – “from exotic locations to expensive sets”. Given the fact that the industry is recovering from the pandemic, and a number of films are releasing in the coming weeks, the producers have decided to postpone Ghani “to avoid clashes and keeping in mind the impact it will have on the business of everyone involved.” The producers have promised that Ghani will release only in theatres. A new release date will be announced soon.
Ghani stars Varun Tej as a boxer in the titular role. Besides him, Ghani features a stellar star cast of Saiee Manjrekar, Jagapathi Babu, Upendra, Naveen Chandra, Suneil Shetty, among others. The film is written and directed by Kiran Korrapati, in his directorial debut. Siddhu Mudda and Allu Bobby are producers on the film, while Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts is on board as distributor.
Ghani has been postponed several times in the last year. It was to release in July, but got postponed due to Covid-19 delays. Subsequent release dates were set for Diwali 2021, December 3 and finally December 24, but the film got postponed each time.
