Recently the data about the advanced ticket bookings of movies that will release on 15th of August was released. In the niche of Hindi movies, Stree 2 tops the chart as expected. But Vedaa left everybody with a surprise claiming the second spot with more than 6500 ticket sales and a revenue of over 19 lacs. Khel Khel Mein lags behind with only over 3500 ticket sales and 10 lacs of revenue. Although Vedaa surprised everyone with such exceptional ticket sales, there is still one twist in it. Out of the 6500 tickets, only 2000 tickets were bought from nationalised chains like PVR, Cinepolis etc. rest all were bought in local theatres. What can be the reason behind it? And is it problematic for the movie?
The possible reason that one can think of for this issue can be the presence of more watchable content in the market at the present moment. On 15th of August, Stree 2 and Thangalaan will be released as well which have very high audience grabbing power. Also, apart from them, movies like Raayan, Kalki 2898 AD etc. are also present who are still dominating the box office going houseful every day. In this situation, the big ventures with a limited number of screens in their complexes must focus more screens for the screening of movies with most audience grabbing potential. Hence they left very few screens for movies like Vedaa. On the other hand, local theatres usually are not preferred by the audience over national chains. Hence, they prefer watching a good movie in a place like INOX or PVR. The local brands can’t stand a chance with them if they choose good films. So, they choose movies with less potential which are ignored by big names, as people usually go for cheaper options while watching those movies. This can explain the maths of ticket sales for Vedaa.
Whatever the screen may be, whatever the theatre may be; a producer’s main concern is ticket sales, and a movie’s main concern is the box office. Vedaa, though from local theatres, has received a good response which indicates towards a good collection. The movie is made with a low budget and looking at the advance booking of tickets it seems that it will easily become profitable, eventually getting into the category of hit.
