Believe us, folks! You guys are not the only ones confused after watching the latest official trailer of Venom 3: The Last Dance. The clip shows Tom Hardy’s return as Eddie Brock, the carrier of the titular alien symbiote. However, there is one cameo in the video that has confused many Marvel fans.
Venom 3 is being hailed as the final chapter of the Tom Hardy-led trilogy. But the appearance of Chiwetel Ejiofor does not make any sense in the latest trailer. He has played two different versions of Karl Mordo in the MCU. The original Doctor Strange (2016) movie shows Earth-616’s Mordo defying the superhero protagonist and the Ancient One after witnessing them bending the laws of nature. In the movie’s post-credits scene, we see him stealing Jonathan Pangborn’s mystic energy, making him cripple again. He leaves Pangborn after telling him that the Earth has too many sorcerers.
In Multiverse of Madness (2022), Ejiofor plays Mordo from Earth-838, the Sorcerer Supreme of this universe and an esteemed member of the Illuminati. It means that Mordo from Earth-616 is still alive. However, when the actor appears in the latest Venom 3 trailer, he is not playing either. Instead, we see him leading a military team to hunt down Eddie and Venom.
Apart from this mess, we also see Eddie and Venom hanging out at a Mexican bar. This is the same bar featured in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). The bar’s owner talked about Thanos, Hulk, and Iron Man with Eddie in NWH’s post-credits scene. At the end of that scene, we see Eddie and Venom escaping, thanks to Doctor Strange’s multiversal spell.
However, the newest Venom 3 trailer shows Ejiofor’s character capturing the black Venom goo at the bar. This has sparked debate about whether “The Last Dance” will take place within the MCU’s main continuity or Venom’s own universe.
Some fans believe that Chiwetel Ejiofor may play a character named Orwell Taylor in the forthcoming threequel. The character will lead a military group called The Jury, straight from Marvel comics. Among all the actors they could have chosen, Sony “miraculously” chose Ejiofor for the character. Sony, please do not butcher Venom 3! The threequel will come out in theatres on October 25, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
