JioCinema has been the home of Bigg Boss for free viewing as viewers love to rewatch old seasons of the reality show for free on JioCinema. The online platform streamed every season of Bigg Boss starting from Bigg Boss Season 3 and had a lot of audience for the same.
However, audiences are furious after JioCinema decided to remove all the previous seasons of the show. The platform removed all the content from the older seasons and currently streams the last three seasons of the show hosted by Salman Khan.
Not only the Hindi version but several seasons of Bigg Boss Marathi and Bigg Boss Kannada have also been removed from the platform. Viewers filled social media with several complaints calling out JioCinema on the sudden removal of the shows.
“Has @JioCinema lost their brains!!!! Why would you remove Bigg Boss 13!” wrote a fan expressing his frustration. Another viewer expressed their frustration and pointed out how older seasons still generated a lot of views for the platform. “You are still getting TRP from an old season why would you even think of removing it?” exclaimed the user.
While expressing their apologies, the platform requested the viewers to cooperate with them. They also stated that the rights for older seasons have expired and therefore, they were no longer available to stream.
There are several speculations that this move might have been taken taking account of the JioCinema-Hotstar merger. Following the Star-Viacom18 merger, Reliance Industries intends to combine Disney+ Hotstar with JioCinema. By streamlining operations and improving content offerings, JioCinema hopes to become India’s top over-the-top platform.
Despite the theories, this sudden removal of several seasons of Bigg Boss has spread a lot of criticism for JioCinema. Only time will tell how the platform fixes the problem in the upcoming time.
